CAA protest: 10 people dead in Uttar Pradesh

CAA protest: As many as ten people have died in Uttar Pradesh in various incidents of violent protest against the new Citizenship Amendment Act. Two persons died each in Bijnor, Firozabad, Kanpur, Meerut and Sambhal. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed the people to maintain peace and do not believe in any of the rumours. Yogi Adityanath said in a statement that "No one should take the law into their hands." Also, the Chief Minister has directed the police to search for those who are misleading people regarding the Act and spreading the rumours and causing violence in the state. The Citizenship Amendment Act seeks to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians feeling religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and came to India on or before December 31, 2014. Meanwhile, Section 144 prohibiting the gathering of more than four people in an area, was imposed in various parts of the state in the wake of current law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. -PTC News
