Chandigarh administration opens Sukhna lake floodgates for record eighth time this monsoon season
PTC News Desk: The Chandigarh administration has opened two out of three floodgates of Sukhna lake following incessant rainfall since last night, as the water level crossed the danger mark of 1,163 feet.
The floodgates have been opened in order to release the excess water into the Ghaggar river. The administration of neighbouring districts were alerted ahead of opening of floodgates.
According to officials, one floodgate was opened around 7:30 am and the second gate was opened around 9 am.
This is the eighth time that the floodgates have been opened this season.
Earlier, the floodgates were opened on August 30, 29, 19, 17, 15, 8, and 6.
A control room has also been established to coordinate with the district administrations of Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula.
Floodgates were opened four times in 2023, six times in 2022, and five times in 2021.
