Chandigarh puts ban on ‘Chinese maanjha/pakka dori' for flying kites

Chandigarh Administration has announced a ban on the procurement, sale and use of ‘Chinese maanjha’ for kite flying in the city. The District Magistrate Mandip Singh Brar stated that a large number of people are flying kites with synthetic/nylon-glass coated thread popularly known as ‘pakka dor’ or ‘Chinese maanjha’. Such strings are made of synthetic material and are non-biodegradable. It also causes serious injuries to human beings, birds and are disadvantageous to the wildlife and environment, he said. Therefore, in an order to prevent serious injuries or death of human beings and birds along with harm to wildlife and environment, the procuring, stocking, sale and use of ‘pakka doris’ or ‘Chinese maanjhas’ or such other harmful substance for flying kites are banned in Chandigarh for 60 days, he added. "The ban will be effective up to August 19, 2020," he said. In an incident, he started bleeding and fell unconscious after which he was immediately rushed to a hospital. -PTC News
