Covid-19: Punjab logs 292 new cases, positivity rate at 1.42%

Punjab Covid Update: Punjab reported 292 fresh Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases to 7,56,130. The daily positivity rate in the state was recorded at 1.42 percent, according to the data released by the government. With the newly reported cases, the active caseload of the state reached 2,933 on the day. According to the update by the government, Punjab recorded eight Covid deaths on Tuesday, with fatalities in Bathinda, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Tarn Taran. The total number of Covid-related deaths in Punjab reached 17,623 on the day. Now, the number of Covid patients on oxygen support stands at 188, while patients who are critical and on ventilator support are 22. SAS Nagar (56) reported the highest number of Covid cases on Tuesday followed by Jalandhar (39) and Amritsar (36). As many as 1,03,577 people received the first dose of the Covid vaccine on the day, while 1,12,214 were administered with a second jab. The number of precautionary doses given in the state rose to 3,57,787, with 6698 booster doses administered on the day. Sharp dip in Punjab Covid cases Meanwhile, the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Government of Punjab, has further extended Covid-19 restrictions from February 16 to February 25. Wearing of masks by all persons in public places, including workplaces etc is mandatory. Social distancing ie a minimum 6 feet distance for all the activities shall always be maintained, as per guidelines. Gatherings will be allowed up to a maximum of 50% of the capacity of the venue. These gatherings will be subject to compliance with Covid-appropriate behaviour. Institutions may advise all students of age group more than 15 years to have at least the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination while attending physical classes.
