Famous Hindi commentator Jasdev Singh is no more. A household name in sports commentary, Jasdev Singh died this morning at the age of 87.
Time and place of his cremation will be decided on arrival of his son who is at present abroad.
Jasdev Singh, who had sports fans from all over the globe glued to their radios and transistors for more than four decades before the advent of television on Indian horizon, was considered a part of every major sporting event in the world, be it Olympic Games, Commonwealth games, Asian Games, World Cups or any other major sporting event. He even did give his melodious voice to coverage of prestigious events like Republic day and Independence Day.
In recognition of his contribution to commentary in general and sports commentary in particular, he was felicitated with several top awards, both at national and international level. He was a recipient of Padam Shri. He is survived by his wife, son Gurdev Singh and a daughter. His son also took to sports commentary.
Jasdev Singh spent most of his life in Delhi though family had strong connections with Rajasthan.
