Karnal farmers' protest: Another meeting between protesting farmers, Karnal officials fail

Karnal Mini-Secretariat gherao: Yet another meeting between an 11-member delegation of farmers and officials of the Karnal administration remained inconclusive. BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said that the gherao of the Karnal Mini-Secretariat by farmers would continue. He said they were ready for a long haul and would not budge till their demands were fulfilled. The administration is not ready to fulfill any of our demands as of now," he said. Also read | Air India’s Amritsar-Rome direct flight resumes from September 8 Tikait said administrative officials were not ready to suspend former Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha, who had ordered a police lathicharge on farmers on August 28, and lodge a case against him. He alleged that the officials seemed to be acting at the behest of higher officials sitting in Chandigarh. "Our protest will continue," reiterated Rakesh Tikait. Another farmer leader, Yogendra Yadav, said the government was not ready to suspend those officials who issued derogatory remarks against farmers. On the other hand, the SP and DSP said that they tried to convince farmers, but they were not ready to negotiate. -PTC News
