Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla takes over as new Commander of Chinar Corps
New Delhi, May 9: Lieutenant general Amardeep Singh Aujla, an officer with vast counter-terrorism operations, took over as the new commander of the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps on Monday.
The Chinar Corps looks after operations in the entire Kashmir valley.
Aujla on Monday took over the charge from Lt Gen Devendra Pratap Pandey, who commanded the Corps in a critical phase of 2021, when Kashmir was confronted with the twin challenges of terrorism and the second wave of Covid pandemic.
Commissioned into the Rajputana Rifles regiment, Amardeep Aujla joined the forces in December 1987. He has done three operational tenures in the Kashmir valley, including the ones as Company Commander in Kashmir, prestigious 268 Infantry Brigade and 28 Infantry Division along the Line of Control in North Kashmir.

Aujla has done staff tenures in the Chinar Corps and has served as the Major General looking after counter-terrorist operations in the Udhampur-based Northern Command headquarters.
Aujla has also served as an instructor in the Commando Wing of Infantry School Belgaum, where he was in charge of commando training, arguably the toughest military course in the force.
He also served in Perspective Planning and Infantry Directorate at Army Headquarters and commanded the prestigious 15 Rajputana Rifles battalion in 2005 and is the second Chinar Corps Commander from the unit in the last three years.
Lt Gen KJS Dhillon (Retd) was also from the same unit and served as Corps commander during the most difficult period when Article 370 was revoked by the Centre.
