Another newlywed couple from UP goes missing while on honeymoon in Sikkim
PTC Web Desk: A tragic incident has cast a shadow over a newlywed couple's honeymoon, as they went missing after their vehicle reportedly plunged into the Teesta river in Sikkim amid heavy rainfall. The search operation, which has been underway for nearly two weeks, has yet to yield any concrete leads.
The missing couple has been identified as Kaushalendra Pratap Singh (29) and Ankita Singh (26), residents of Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district. The couple was married on May 5 and had set out for their honeymoon on May 25.
According to officials, the accident occurred on May 29 when their vehicle was returning from Lachen to Lachung. Due to incessant rainfall and poor visibility, the vehicle is believed to have skidded off the road and fallen into the swollen Teesta river.
Besides the couple, the vehicle was carrying seven other tourists — including two from Uttar Pradesh, two from Tripura, and four from Odisha — along with the driver. All are currently unaccounted for.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been continuously conducting extensive search operations in and around the Teesta river and nearby gorges. Despite the efforts, no trace of the missing individuals or the vehicle has been found so far.
Kaushalendra Pratap Singh is the nephew of senior BJP leader Ummed Singh. The incident has left the family devastated.
The couple's luggage was recovered from their hotel room, but so far there is no definitive evidence that their vehicle fell into the river.
