Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, known for iconic role as 'Karna' in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, dies at 65

PTC Web Desk: Veteran television and film actor Pankaj Dheer, best remembered for his powerful portrayal of Karna in BR Chopra’s legendary TV series Mahabharat, passed away on Wednesday. The news of his death was confirmed by his longtime friend and colleague Amit Behl, a senior member of CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes’ Association).

According to sources, Pankaj Dheer had been battling cancer for a prolonged period. Though he initially recovered after treatment, the disease reportedly relapsed a few months ago, leaving him critically ill. He had also undergone a major surgery related to his condition.


In an official statement, CINTAA expressed its condolences, saying: “With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on 15th October 2025. The cremation will be held today at 4:30 pm, next to Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai.”

Apart from Mahabharat, Dheer’s versatile career included notable roles in films like 'Sanam Bewafa', 'Baadshah', and popular TV shows such as 'Chandrakanta' and 'Sasural Simar Ka'. He also directed a feature film titled 'My Father Godfather' and founded the Abhinay Acting Academy, which trained aspiring actors.

Pankaj Dheer is survived by his wife Anita Dheer and son Nikitin Dheer, who is also an actor.
