Indian Army introduces common uniform for brigadier, above ranks

New Delhi, August 1: The Indian Army has introduced a new uniform regulation applicable to senior officers holding the ranks of Brigadier and above, as confirmed by Army officials. This regulation applies to all officers regardless of their parent cadre and initial appointment.

The implementation of the new common uniform regulation for senior officers with Brigadier and above ranks is aimed at reinforcing a shared identity and preserving the Indian Army's reputation as a fair and equitable organization, according to Army officials. The decision was made after extensive discussions during the recently-concluded Army Commanders Conference and consultations with all relevant stakeholders.

According to officials, the headgear, shoulder rank badges, gorget patches, belt, and shoes of senior officers holding the flag rank (Brigadier and above) will now be standardised and common. As part of the new uniform regulation, flag-rank officers will no longer wear any lanyard. The decision had been taken to foster and reinforce a unified identity and approach in service matters among senior leadership, transcending regimental boundaries, said the officials.

Brigadier and above officers are those who have already commanded units and battalions and are mostly posted at headquarters or establishments where officers from all arms and services work and function together.

A standard uniform will ensure a common identity for all senior-rank officers and reflect the true ethos of the Indian Army, officials said.

There is no change in the uniform worn by Colonels and officers below that rank, Army officials said. (ANI)
