Tahawwur Rana extradition: How Mumbai terror attacks mastermind's key conspirator David Coleman Headley sealed his fate ?
PTC News Desk: Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind behind grisly terror attacks on country's financial capital Mumbai which claimed lives of over 200 people is being brought back to India for his long-standing trial. He is being flown to India on a special flight after he exhausted all his legal options in the United States.
As soon as he touches down in India, he will be produced before a National Investigative Agency (NIA) Court in New Delhi. Mumbai Crime Branch will get the custody later. A multi-agency team comprising senior officials from NIA were sent to US to facilitate the extradition process. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is closely monitoring the entire extradition process along with other senior officials.
What led to the arrest of Tahawwur Rana ?
It is the testimony of David Coleman Headley (alias Dawood Gilani), key co-cnspirator behind the attacks that led to the arrest of Tahawwur Rana.
On October 3, 2009 Headley was arrested and immediately after his arrest he testified against Tahawwur Rana. Basically his testimony exposed the role of Tahawwur Rana in orchestrating the attacks.
He played a pivotal role in facilitating travel documents for David Coleman Headley who conducted reconnaissance of key targets in Mumbai. Rana provided financial and logistical support to Headley when he visited Mumbai to conduct recee of the target places.
Headley revealed that Rana helped him in opening an immigration consultancy agency and leveraged the agency to aid Headley who clearly posed as an agent of the firm.
A series of testimonies by David Coleman Headley established Rana's role in the entire conspiracy that claimed lives of over 200 people.
