PTC News Desk: New FASTag regulations have come in place starting today. According to a notification issued by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on January 28, FASTag payments will now be verified within a specified time frame once the tag is scanned at a toll plaza.

Changes in FASTag Rules

  • As per the new rules, if a FASTag is blacklisted or marked as low balance for more than 60 minutes before reaching the toll booth, the transaction will be declined.
  • If the FASTag gets blacklisted upon reaching the toll, a user now has to pay double the toll charges.
  • Users will now have access to 70-minute grace period to rectify their FASTag status before crossing toll booths.
  • Users now might face extra charges if a toll tax processed more than 15 minutes after passing the toll reader
  • Banks can raise chargebacks for incorrect deductions related to blacklisted or low-balance FASTags only after a 15-day cooling period.

In order to prevent issues with the new FASTag rules, users should ensure there is enough balance in their FASTag wallet, verify that the FASTag is active and not blacklisted, monitor transaction times for any delays in deductions, and regularly check the FASTag status to avoid rejections due to inactivity.
