PTC Web Desk: The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against the husband and mother-in-law of a 38-year-old woman who was found dead earlier this week at her residence in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar. The action follows allegations by the woman’s mother, who claimed that continuous harassment led to her daughter’s suspected suicide.

A senior police official confirmed that the case was filed on Friday under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) and Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, based on a complaint from the deceased woman’s mother.

The deceased, identified as Deepti Chaurasia, was the daughter-in-law of Kamal Kishor, owner of the popular pan masala brands Kamla Pasand and Rajshree. She was found hanging in her home on Tuesday. Her husband reportedly discovered her and alerted both the family and the police.

During the investigation, the police recovered a diary from the room, which detailed Deepti’s strained relationship with her husband. A suicide note was also found, containing the words, “no love no trust.” Media reports suggest the note further questioned the purpose of life in the absence of trust and affection.

Deepti, who married in 2010, is survived by a 14-year-old son. Her family has accused her husband of having an extramarital affair and subjecting her to physical violence.

Her brother, Rishab, alleged that the case is not suicide but murder. He claimed Deepti had confided in him about her husband Harpreet’s alleged affair with South Indian actress Tanisha Singh and ongoing abuse by her husband and mother-in-law. “She used to call and tell me she was being tortured,” he said, alleging that she had been forcefully taken back to her matrimonial home despite earlier attempts to protect her.

The police are continuing their investigation and awaiting forensic reports to determine the exact cause of death.
