‘Asked to pay’: Police driver booked for driving car with petrol staff on bonnet at Kannur petrol pump
Kannur: In a shocking and horrific incident, Kannur police driver has been charged with attempted murder after an altercation at a petrol pump escalated dramatically.
The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly struck a petrol pump employee with his vehicle and drove with the man on the bonnet after being asked to pay for the fuel.
As per the reports, the accused has been arrested and suspended from services.
Kannur city police commissioner Ajith Kumar said various sections including attempt to murder were imposed against the accused and he was suspended from the service.
Anil, an employee, was attacked on Sunday evening when a police driver allegedly attempted to leave without paying for fuel, according to the police.
CCTV footage showing Anil clinging to the bonnet of a speeding car, traveling nearly one kilometer along a busy highway, quickly went viral on social media.
In the video, Anil is seen arguing with the driver, identified as K Santhosh Kumar. As the confrontation intensified, the driver suddenly accelerated, causing Anil to be thrown onto the car's bonnet. The vehicle, with Anil still on the bonnet, traveled about a kilometer before stopping on the busy road.
Anil sustained injuries to his hands and later filed a complaint with the Town Police.
The incident has also sparked discussions about the accountability of police personnel and the need for stricter enforcement of ethical conduct within the force.
