'Leh being turned into a war zone': Sonam Wangchuk ahead of his ‘Pashmina march’
PTC News Desk: Ahead of the ‘Pashmina march’ along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that would highlight the "ground realities in Ladakh", activist Sonam Wangchuk voiced his concerns over the deployment of 'equipped' security forces in Leh.
Notably, prohibitory measures, including the internet ban, have been imposed in Ladakh a day before the scheduled border march headed by Sonam Wangchuk.
Wangchuk, who inspired Aamir Khan's film '3 Idiots', asked people in Ladakh to forego the march and instead raise their voices from wherever they are on Sunday.
Wangchuk, taking to X (formerly Twitter), said that security forces equipped with smoke grenades, riot gear, and barricades had been deployed to the area, despite the fact that the protest had been peaceful so far.

"Leh is being turned into a war zone with disproportionate force, barricades, smoke grenades. Attempts to arrest peaceful youth leaders even singers continue. Seems they want to turn a most peaceful movement violent & then brand Ladakhis as anti-nationals," he said.
"Govt seems worried only about Ladakh's effects on their votes and mining lobbies... not the people here nor even national security."

On Sunday, thousands were expected to take part in the 'Pashmina March' to the Line of Actual Control as part of the statehood campaign. Wangchuk claims that China has seized more than 4,000 square kilometres of territory.
