PTC News Desk: Amid the communal violence triggered by the demand seeking removal of Aurangzeb's tomb, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has also weighed in. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) spokesperson Sunil Ambekar on Wednesday said that the Mughal Emperor was "not relevant" in today's times while asserting that any form of violence is not healthy for the society.

"Aurangzeb is not relevant today. No form of violence is encouraged," Ambekar said.

"The question is, if Aurangzeb is relevant today, should the tomb be removed? The answer is that he is not relevant. Any type of violence is not good for the health of society," he further added.

The series of controversies erupted after the release of the movie 'Chhaava', which showcases the history of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and how he was executed by Aurangzeb.

Earlier on Monday members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged a protest seeking removal of Aurangzeb's tomb in Khuldabad. During the protest, an effigy of Aurangzeb with a 'chadar' was set on fire.

However what escalated the violence was rumours of desecration of holy book triggering violent clashes leading to arson and vandalism. Earlier today Nagpur police had arredted the alleged mastermind of the violent communal clashes erupted in the city. The accused has been identified as Fahim Khan who has been sent to police custody till March 21.
