Odd-Even may not be the solution to problem of air pollution: SC

The Supreme Court, on Friday, asked the Centre to prepare a road map for installation of air purifying towers across Delhi to deal with the pollution crisis. The Apex Court asked the Delhi government to tell whether there has been any relief from air pollution from the odd-even scheme. To this, the Delhi government told the Apex court that pollution level was reduced by 5% to 15% due to the Odd-Even scheme and that the result would be better if no exemption were made under the scheme. Last year, no study was conducted on the impact of the odd-even scheme. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court asked the Delhi government: "Delhi is suffering badly. Air Quality Index (AQI) is almost 600 even today. How do people breathe?” The court also said odd-even may not be the solution to the problem of pollution. https://www.ptcnews.tv/384-challans-issued-on-day-two-of-odd-even-scheme-in-delhi-manish-sisodia/ Adding, the top court added, "Odd Even may not be a permanent solution, especially when Central Pollution Control Board says cars constitute 3 per cent of pollution levels. Garbage dumping, construction wastes & road dusts are also major contributors to the pollution levels." Furthermore, the Supreme Court observes, "we can try to control pollution but nature is not in our control. This is what happens when nature is misused, and that if no exemption is given under Odd Even scheme it can work." Also, Supreme Court asked Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to randomly check 3 wheelers running on polluting fuels and file report. Delhi Development Authority, Public Works Department and other civic bodies to co-operate with monitoring committee to ensure implementation of court orders. -PTC News
