Delhi: Petrol price hiked by Rs 1.67 per litre, diesel by Rs 7.10

Petrol and diesel become more expensive in the national capital on Tuesday after the Delhi government hiked the value-added tax (VAT) on auto fuels. The petrol price in the national capital was hiked by Rs 1.67 a litre and diesel by a steep Rs 7.10 per litre.  The hike in fuel prices comes as the country entered the second day of the third phase of a nationwide lockdown, to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The fuel prices vary from state to state in the country based on factors such as a local taxes and dealer commission. As per the report, the market price of petrol in Delhi on Tuesday included an excise duty of Rs 22.98 per litre and VAT (including the taxes on dealer commission) of Rs 16.44 per litre. The diesel rate included excise duty of Rs 18.83 and the VAT of Rs 16.26 on sale of every litre of the fuel in the national capital. Petrol Meanwhile, the Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday said that the demand for fuel in the country is set to recover as the authorities ease restrictions on industrial activity and transport in areas that have contained the spread of coronavirus.
