PM Modi extends greetings on Republic Day, security beefed up in Delhi
India is all set to celebrate the 70th Republic Day today (January 26) with an impressive parade to grace the route from Vijay Chowk to Red Fort through Rajpath and India Gate. The parade will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year, the Chief Guest is South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa. He was invited by Narendra Modi during the G 20 summit held in Argentina last year.

The flag will be hoisted by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. The Republic Day Parade will start at 9:50 am.
Prime Minister greeted Indians on Republic Day and wrote on Twitter, “Happy Republic Day to all fellow Indians. सभी देशवासियों को #गणतंत्रदिवस की शुभकामनाएं। जय हिन्द!”

Also, during the 90-minute parade 22 tableaux of states and central government departments will be showcased. There will be many performances by school children.
