Bihar elections: Congress faces backlash after 'abusive remarks' against PM Modi, his mother; BJP seeks Rahul Gandhi’s apology
PTC Web Desk: A political storm has erupted in poll-bound Bihar after "derogatory language" was allegedly used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga. The controversy has triggered a sharp war of words between the Congress and the BJP, with the saffron party demanding a public apology from the Congress MP.
A viral video from the event shows Congress workers hurling abuses at the Prime Minister while standing on a stage that displayed posters of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Notably, none of the senior leaders were present on stage when the incident took place. The workers were also heard chanting the name of Naushad, a local Congress leader eyeing a ticket for the upcoming Assembly polls.
Responding to the controversy, Naushad has reportedly clarified that he had already left the venue with Rahul Gandhi for a rally in Muzaffarpur 15–20 minutes before the incident.
The Congress leadership has distanced itself from the incident. Party leader Rashid Alvi stated that the Congress strongly condemns the use of such language and does not endorse it in any way.
Meanwhile, the BJP launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, “Rahul Gandhi, the kind of abusive language being used against PM Modi from your stage is absolutely intolerable. You must apologise to the nation. The people of Bihar will not forgive such behaviour.”
He further added, “A poor man’s child, a son from the OBC community, has become the Prime Minister, and the Congress cannot tolerate it. This jealousy will only lead to their downfall.”
The controversy comes as Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, allies in the Grand Alliance, held massive rallies in Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Sitamarhi—regions considered strongholds of the BJP-led NDA.
