Is 2025 the 78th or 79th Independence Day?
Many people often get confused about the count. Some simply subtract 1947 from 2025 and believe it to be the 78th. However, the first Independence Day was celebrated on August 15, 1947 itself. Counting from that year, 2025 will mark the 79th Independence Day.
Independence Day serves as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made to secure India’s freedom and inspires citizens to uphold democratic values.
The official programme in Delhi will start with a Guard of Honour by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police to the Prime Minister, followed by the unfurling of the tricolour at the Red Fort. The National Anthem will be played, and a 21-gun salute will be given. Indian Air Force helicopters will shower flower petals over the historic fort, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation.
