Visakhapatnam to be new capital of Andhra Pradesh, says CM Jagan Reddy

New Delhi, January 31: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday announced Visakhapatnam as new state capital. Present capital of Andhra Pradesh is Amaravati.

Addressing a preparatory meeting for the Global Investors Summit to be held in Visakhapatnam in March, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said he would also be shifting his office to Visakhapatnam, the city of ports, soon. "Here I am to invite you to Visakhapatnam which is going to be our capital in the days to come. I myself would also be shifting over to Visakhapatnam in the months to come," he was quoted as saying.

The Andhra Pradesh government had repealed the controversial AP decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020, in November 2022 in order to establish three capitals for the state. Three capitals were proposed — Visakhapatnam (executive capital), Amaravati (legislative capital) and Kurnool (judicial capital).
