Who is Siddaramaiah, Karnataka's CM-designate? All you need to know

Karnataka CM News: The Congress on Thursday broke Karnataka jam by officially announcing Siddaramaiah as the next Chief Minister of the state and state Congress president DK Shivakumar as his deputy. 

Siddaramaiah would be the Karnataka CM for a period of 2.5 years, following which DK Shivakumar would takeover as the Karnataka CM.

Karnataka CM-designate Siddaramaiah had joined the Congress in 2006 after his ouster from JD(S) of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda.

In the run-up to the Assembly elections, Siddaramaiah had told the voters that, "This is my last election. I will retire from electoral politics. 

Siddaramaiah also remained the Chief Minister from 2013 to 2018. He belongs to the Kuruba community, which is the third largest caste in Karnataka.

Siddaramaiah has to his credit the distinction of presenting 13 state budgets as Finance Minister. His acquaintances often say that "he has a overpowering personality".

The Karnataka CM-designate had made his debut in the Assembly in 1983, when he got elected from Chamundeshwari on a Lok Dal Party ticket. He has won five times from this constituency and suffered defeat thrice.

Siddaramaiah was the first Chairman of 'Kannada Kavalu Samiti', a watchdog committee which had the mandate to supervise the implementation of Kannada as official language.

However, Siddaramaiah had suffered defeat in the 1989 and 1999 Assembly elections. 

Born on August 12, 1948 at Siddaramaiah graduated from Mysore University with B.Sc. degree and later studied law from the same institution.
