BJP Mahila Morcha stage protest in Chandigarh against AAP govt's 'Rs 1,100 to women' poll promise
PTC News Desk: The BJP Mahila Morcha held a protest in Chandigarh demanding that the Punjab government fulfil its promise of giving ₹1,100 every month to women in the state. They had announced that they would march toward the official residence of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.
In view of the demonstration, Chandigarh Police stopped them by putting up barricades 200 meters before the residence. The protesters tried to break the barricades but were not successful. Some of them climbed onto the barricades.
Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between protesters and the Chandigarh Police resulting in the detention os several workers including party state president Jaiinder Kaur.
Jaiinder Kaur said that the government is saying the scheme will rollout next year. She asked what happened to the money that women were supposed to receive earlier, before this new date.
Notably, AAP had promised during elections to give ₹1,100 per month to women. However, it has not started yet. CM Bhagwant Mann has said it will be implemented after the 2026 budget. Meanwhile, AAP spokesperson Baltej Pannu said, “Before protesting, Jaiinder Kaur should ask her Daddy ji, Captain Amarinder Singh, a few questions. He lied to the people of Punjab in 2017. Captain promised jobs for every household—how many households actually got jobs?”
