Bomb threat mails to Golden Temple sent via 'Dark Net': Punjab Police
PTC News Desk: In a significant development in the bomb threat mails send to Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee to blow up Golden Temple, the Punjab police have revealed that threatening mails were sent through Dark Net” and “Virtual Private Network” (VPN).
According to the police, only a US-based software company and its subsidiary firms can provide the source of the same. “We have approached the US-based firm, but it has not responded and provided any details so far,” said a senior police official privy to the investigations.
Dark net is a network inside the Internet itself that can only be operated with specific software and configuration. Besides, Golden Temple several other religious sites have received similar threats, putting the intelligence and security agencies on high alert.
Three days ago Amritsar Sri Guru Ram Das InternationaL Airport received an e-mail threatening to blow up the airport, following which the Central security agency CISF and Punjab Police beefed up the security.
The police officials familiar with the case and surrounded with investigation contained similar content in which the sender repeatedly raised the issues related to people of Tamil Nadu, criticising the government over there.
“We strongly believe that the emails were sent from Tamil Nadu but we have to substantiate it with technical evidence. We are waiting for a response from the US based software firm. We have also informed the central agencies,” said the sources.
Meanwhile police commissioner, Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has maintained that as the cyber investigation is spanned across multiple states, the investigation has become a time-consuming process.
