Chandigarh court grants bail to Sukhbir Singh Badal in 2017 defamation case
PTC News Desk: A district court in Chandigarh on Saturday granted bail to Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal in a 2017 defamation case. Earlier, the court had cancelled his bail and issued non-bailable warrants after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing.
Rajinder Pal Singh, a Mohali resident and spokesperson for the Akhand Kirtani Jatha, had filed a defamation case under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code against Sukhbir Singh Badal in the Chandigarh district court.
The case dates back to January 4, 2017 when the then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting Rajinder Pal Singh at his residence in the national capital. Later SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal slammed the meeting and called Akhand Kirtani Jatha, political front of the banned terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International.
Complainant Rajinder Pal Singh alleged that this statement seriously damaged the reputation and image of their organisation, prompting him to file a defamation case.
