Neha Ahlawat murder case: Chandigarh court convicts serial killer Monu, quantum of sentence tomorrow

PTC News Desk: The Chandigarh court on Thursday convicted a taxi driver, Monu Kumar, in a 15-year-old murder case of 21-year-old girl student Neha Ahlawat. The court will pronounce the quantum of the sentence tomorrow.


The police registered a case against unknown person after Nehas 's blood-stained body was found in bush in Chandigarh's Sector-38 West. She was rushed to the PGI where a doctor declared her brought dead. The police failed to find the culprit for years and closed the investigation in 2020.

In the complaint, Neha's father stated that on July 30,2010, around 6 pm his daughter left for Sector-15 where she used to attend english speaking classes but did not return by 9 pm. The family then called her friend to enquire about her but she told them that Neha did not come to her house.

Panic gripped the family after Neha could not be located anywhere and the family was unable to establish any contact.

Meanwhile, Neha's father received a call that her scooter was found parked near a taxi stand in Sector 38 West. Soon after the call, the family desperately searched the area and Neha's half naed body was found in a pool of blood in the bushes near the taxi stand. 

She was immediately rushed to PGI where she was declared brought dead. 

Twelve years after, another gruesome murder case with similar pattern, came to light in 2022, leading the police to the culprit Monu. In this case also the accused sexually assaulted the victim Mandeep Kaur before killing her. 

During the investigation of this case, police took DNA samples of the suspected persons of the area who had criminal records . The DNA sample of the accused matched with the samples collected from the deceased. 

The police later claimed that the accused Monu had confessed of killing Neha. His DNA had sample had also matched with samples collected from Neha’s body.
