No clear reason given, produced complete documentation: Punjab AAP MLA Kulwant Singh on ED raid
PTC News Desk: Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kulwant Singh addressed the media late Tuesday after the ED searched his home in the morning. Talking to the media, the AAP MLA stated that agency officials did not provide a clear reason for the raid.
He also said that the officials demanded property documents and questioned him about his income and business.
"I inquired them about the reason for the ED raids, but no clear answer was given," he said, adding "They questioned me about my income sources and businesses, for which I provided documentation."
"I had contested in elections last year and disclosed all property information in the affidavit. I have cooperated with ED officials and answered all of their questions. I believe they were satisfied with my response," he added.
The Enforcement Directorate raided multiple locations in Punjab, including at the premises of AAP MLA Kulwant Singh on Tuesday.
Kulwant Singh is the richest MLA in Punjab with assets worth 1,000 crore. He joined the AAP in December 2021 and got a ticket from Mohali in the Punjab assembly elections in 2022.
With the support of Congress, he became the first mayor of the Mohali Municipal Corporation House in 2015. He later joined the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2017. He was expelled from SAD in January 2021 for "anti-party activities" after deciding to run in the 2021 municipal elections on his own, which he lost.
