Punjab: Ferozepur resident on list of deportees did not return, no contact with family
PTC News Desk: Navdeep Singh, a resident of Punjab's Ferozepur district has not reached home yet despite his name being on the deportees list. So far three batches of illegal immigrants have arrived in India since February 5, however Singh's presence is nowhere to be known.
Navdeep Singh's name appeared on the deportation list twice after two failed attempts to enter the US in just eight months via the illegal "donkey" route. There has been no contact with the family.
His father Kashmir Singh who owns a small sweet shop in Taranwala village said that his son was scheduled to return on February 15 onboard the second US deportation flight, which carried 116 illegal immigrants. When they reached Amritsar to pick up his son however he was not present in the flight. Navdeep's friend told them that he did not board the flight.
"We were waiting for him at the airport but when Navdeep's friend came out, he told us that he was not on the plane. The reason given was that he was unwell and had developed a fever. We are very worried that our child hasn't returned, we have no information about him," he said.
While narrating the ordeal, Navdeep's mother also said that "we kept looking for our child at the airport but his friend told us that he was taken off the flight since he wasn't feeling well".
"We have not had any communication with him, and no one has given us any information so far. We are praying for our child's safe return," she added.
Earlier Navdeep's family had spent over 40 lakhs to send him to the United States only to get deported after getting arrest in Panama. Unwavered by first failed attempt, he tried again and travel to Guatemala from Malaysia. Two months later, he managed to reach the US for a second time by paying an additional Rs 15 lakh to the same travel agent and taking the treacherous "donkey" route.
But he was caught and detained on January 27, 2025.
