 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda on Sunday urged the people of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh to cast their vote in assembly elections for the development and prosperity in the states. Polling in Punjab for the election of the 117-seat assembly began on Sunday at around 8 am, while the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls is also underway on the day.

"With the third phase in Uttar Pradesh, voting is to be held in all the seats of Punjab today. I request all the voters to vote for the prosperity, prosperity and development of the state on this important occasion of the great festival of democracy. Ensure your share in the progress of the state," tweeted the BJP leader. 'Vote for development & prosperity' In the third phase of UP elections, 627 candidates are running in 59 assembly constituencies, including 97 women candidates. On Sunday, almost 2.16 crore voters will cast votes at 25,794 polling places and 15,557 polling stations.

Meanwhile, in single-phase assembly elections in Punjab, 1304 candidates are in the fray. Over 2.14 crore voters of the state will cast their votes. Of the total 1304 candidates, 231 are from national parties, 250 from state parties, 362 from unrecognised parties and 461 are Independent candidates.
