Rana Gurjeet Singh seeks Sukhpal Khaira's expulsion, calls him 'tainted' minister

Ahead of Punjab Assembly elections 2022, State Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh on Monday urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to intervene in the allotment of a party ticket to Sukhpal Singh Khaira from Bholath, demanding his expulsion by calling him 'a tainted minister'. In a letter written to Sonia Gandhi, Rana Gurjeet Singh wrote: "I want to seek your kind and urgent intervention into the allotment of party ticket from Bholath assembly segment in Kapurthala district to Sukhpal Singh Khaira. Allotting a ticket to a tainted person like him is too far, he should rather be immediately expelled from Congress for the following reasons." In 2017, he contested elections on the Aam Aadmi Party ticket. His old recordings of what he said and spoke about Congress can be referred to anytime. Even after getting elected on the AAP ticket, he used to spit venom at the Congress party," he wrote. "He is currently in jail in connection with the money laundering case. It is not the routine money laundering case of unaccounted wealth or money. It relates to drug money. The money in question has been made through drugs, which is unacceptable and indefensible," Rana Gurjeet Singh wrote. In fact, it was our worthy former President Rahul Gandhi Ji who had flagged the issue in 2015 while referring to the serious problem of drugs in Punjab," he added. "Now how can our party give the ticket to someone who is tainted by drug charges or any of his family members?" Rana Gurjeet Singh questioned, adding that "It will be difficult for the Congress leaders and contestants to defend the indefensible that on the one hand, we have sworn that we will eliminate drugs and on the other hand we are giving a party ticket to a tainted person who is in jail accused of money laundering which he accumulated from drugs." [caption id="attachment_574935" align="aligncenter" width="750"] Sukhpal Singh Khaira[/caption] "This is the high time that the Congress party should take a stand on the issue of drugs and someone who is tainted and is in jail for the same charges should not get the party ticket. 6. Let me add, he is not winning anyways and allotting the party ticket to him or any of his family members will not only send a wrong signal but will also mean wasting a precious constituency and during a crucial election," the letter reads. To this, Sukhpal Singh Khaira replied: "Before making bogus allegations against me or worrying about Congress prospects in Bholath, tainted and corrupt Rana Gurjit should first withdraw his son as an independent candidate from Sultanpur Lodhi and should explain why he planted his crony one Gora Gill in Captain’s PLC and Joginder Mann in AAP? The reality is that this tainted leader is hand in glove with BJP and Capt. to destroy Congress in Kapurthala and Doaba region." Punjab Assembly elections 2022 are scheduled to be held on February 20 while the counting of votes will be held on March 10. Also Read | News of Lata Mangeshkar’s death is FAKE!
