Sukhbir Singh Badal among senior leaders detained in Chandigarh
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal among senior leaders were detained in Chandigarh for trying to march towards Punjab Raj Bhawan to protest against the 'sky-high' prices of petrol and diesel in Punjab.
The SAD president slammed the Punjab government for not reducing Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel prices in Punjab. He added that other states including Haryana and Chandigarh have already reduced the VAT on fuels.

Furthermore, he also slammed the Punjab government over the pink bollworm attack. He also slammed PPCC Navjot Singh Sidhu. "Take stand for Punjabis if you have the courage to do so," he said.

"I strongly condemn the Chandigarh police for resorting to lathi-charge and water cannons. Our several workers have been injured. Protesting is our democratic right," he said.
He also threatened to intensify the protest if the Punjab government does not reduce VAT on petrol and diesel in Punjab.
Besides Sukhbir Singh Badal, the other Shiromani Akali Dal leaders who were detained included Parambans Singh Romana, Daljit Singh Cheema, Bikram Singh Majithia.
