Punjab Government Holidays: The Punjab government declared a public holiday in the state on April 17 on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami and on April 21 on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.

A gazetted holiday has been announced in the government schools, colleges, various educational and governmental institutions throughout the state.

Ram Navami is a Hindu festival that is celebrated in order to honour the birth of Lord Vishnu's incarnation, Lord Rama. This day marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations, which are celebrated in the Hindu month of Chaitra which falls on the cusp of spring and summer.

Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Jains. The festival of Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Vardhamana Mahavira. It is believed that Lord Mahavira was born in the state of Bihar in 599 BC. He was the founder of the Jain religion and was the one who spread the philosophy of nonviolence, compassion, and self-control.
