UP Assembly Elections 2022: CM Yogi Adityanath to contest from Gorakhpur
UP Elections 2022: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will contest the upcoming state elections from Gorakhpur, announced the Bharatiya Janata Party's Uttar Pradesh poll in-charge and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday.
The deputy chief minister of UP, Keshav Prasad Maurya will run from the Sirathu assembly constituency. Pradhan also released the list of 57 candidates out of 58 for the first phase of the elections and 38 out of 55 for the second.
The big announcement was made by union minister Pradhan and BJP national general secretary Arun Singh at a press conference in New Delhi.

“We are releasing the list of candidates on 57/58 seats in the first phase and 38/55 in the second phase,” said BJP Pradhan while issuing the list of candidates ahead of crucial state elections.
Notably, CM Yogi Adityanath is no stranger to Gorakhpur, where he was elected unopposed five consecutive times and draws his other identity as head priest of Gorakhnath Mutt.
Several party leaders recently resigned from their posts, citing the Uttar Pradesh government's insensitive attitude towards backward classes.
In order to maintain the caste balance and appeal to voters, the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded women on ten seats, OBC candidates on 44 seats, and scheduled castes (SC) candidates on 19 seats, accounting for 60% of the total.
In the list released today, 83 are current BJP MLAs and 21 are new candidates, out of a total of 107 candidates.
The party announced the candidacies of Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan (Chhata Assembly constituency), Vikram Saini (Khatrauli), Dinesh Khatik (Hastinapur), Srikant Sharma (Mathura) and Pankaj Singh (Noida).
Former Uttarakhand governor, Baby Rani Maurya will be contesting from the Agra Rural, Pankaj Singh, the son of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, from Noida seat, Tejendra Singh Nirwal from Shamli and Umesh Malik will contest from Budhana.
Sapna Kashyap will contest from Charthawal, Pramod Utwal from Purqazi (SC), Kapidev Aggarwal from Muzaffar Nagar and Vikram Saini will be contesting from Khatauli in the upcoming elections.
Prashant Gurjar from Meerapur, Manendra Pal Singh from Siwalkhas, Sangeet Som from Sardhana, Dinesh Khatik from Hastinapur (SC), Satyavir Tyagi from Kithore, Amit Aggarwal from Meerut Cantt, Sahendra Singh Ramala from Chharprauli, Krishnapal Singh (KP Malik) from Baraut, Yogesh Dhama from Baghpat, Nandkishor Gurjar from Loni, Ajit Pal Tyagi from Muradnagar, Sunil Sharma from Sahibabad and Atul Garg from Ghaziabad will also contest in the state assembly elections.
Elections for the 403 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting February 10. The voting will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3 and 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
