UP Elections 2022: Kanpur Mayor among 3 booked for breach of poll secrecy
Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), February 20: As the third phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh is underway on Sunday, three people, including Kanpur mayor Pramila Pandey, have been booked for breaching the secrecy of voting, informed the District Magistrate (DM) of Kanpur Neha Sharma.
The other two persons booked for the breach are former president Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Nawab Singh and one other.
Giving details, the district magistrate said, "FIR has been lodged against the mayor under relevant sections for breach of secrecy of voting at Hudson school polling station as she had shared pictures from inside the polling booth showing the electronic voting machine (EVM)."
"The former president of the BJYM, Nawab Singh, has also been charged for violating the polling secrecy," the DM continued.
"Voting is being done peacefully," Kanpur Police Commissioner Vijay Kumar Meena said, adding "Security forces have been deployed in adequate numbers at all polling booths in the city."

Voting for the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections is underway in 59 seats spread across 16 districts in the state. The average voter turnout in the state was recorded at 8.15 percent till 9 am.
In the third phase of elections, 627 candidates are running in 59 assembly constituencies, including 97 women candidates. On Sunday, almost 2.16 crore voters will cast votes at 25,794 polling places and 15,557 polling stations.
The Commission has also deployed 52 general observers, 16 police observers, and 19 expenditure observers to monitor the polls. In addition, there are 2235 Sector Magistrates, 273 Zonal Magistrates, 832 Static Magistrates and 3069 Micro Observers on the task. There will be 641 model polling stations and 129 all-women polling stations in the third phase.
With the third phase, Uttar Pradesh assembly elections have entered the ‘Yadav belt.’
Voting for the remaining four phases of the seven-phase UP assembly elections will take place on February 23, 27 and March 3 and 7, with the counting of votes on March 10.
