Uttar Pradesh: Station officer suspended in Kanpur shootout case

The Uttar Pradesh police suspended station officer (SO) of Chaubeypur police station in Kanpur in the wake of allegations of his involvement in the shooting of policemen by criminals during a raid.

In an incident, as many as eight policemen were killed in a shooting by criminals when they moved to arrest Vikas Dubey. IG (Kanpur Range) Mohit Agarwal said that in the wake of allegations levelled against the SO, he has been suspended.

As per the officials, if anyone's involvement is found in this incident, they will be sacked from the department and also sent to jail.

Eight police personnel, including a DSP, were killed in a shooting near a village in Kanpur city by the henchmen of a criminal. Also, a close associate of criminal Vikas Dubey has been arrested.

The policemen who were martyred are — Deputy SP Devendra Mishra (54), posted as Circle Officer of Bilhaur, SHO Shivrajpur police station Mahesh Kumar Yadav (42), Sub-Inspector Anoop Kumar Singh (32), Sub-Inspector Nebu Lal (48), constables Jitendra Pal (26), Sultan Singh (34), Bablu Kumar (23) and Rahul Kumar (24).

Meanwhile, seven others, including a civilian, were injured in an attack from a rooftop. A police team entered Bikru village past Thursday midnight to arrest Dubey, who is having 60 criminal cases against him.

After the attack, the attackers fled snatching weapons from the dead and the wounded policemen.
