Woman delivers baby on moving boat after being rescued by Indian Navy

Indian Navy on Wednesday safely evacuated a pregnant lady in emergency labour from Daring - a remote village in Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Nicobar Island). The baby was delivered on the Fast Intercepter Craft (FIC) itself, which had left from INS Kardip in Kamorta Island. Both mother and baby were transferred to the Community Health Centre on arrival in Kamorta Jetty and both of them are safe. A senior Indian Navy officer stated that "The rescue operation was initiated after civil administration found that it was impossible for it to carry the patient through 20 km treacherous terrain in such a medical condition." A team of Indian Navy, including medical officer, first took the Community Health Centre staff and reached Daring Village at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The team took the woman on the boat and left Daring. While in the boat, the woman delivered a baby. Afterwards, the mother and baby were transferred to the Community Health Centre on arrival in Kamorta Jetty. -PTC News
