26-year-old Indian man stabbed to death in London, seven arrested
A 26-year-old man of Indian origin, Gurbhej Singh, was stabbed to death in west London, leading the Metropolitan Police to launch a murder investigation. The attack happened on North Road in Southall, near Dormers Wells Lane. Another man in his 30s was also injured but has since been treated and released from hospital.
Police arrested seven men at the scene on suspicion of murder. After further investigation, six were released without any charges, while the seventh man was released on bail and may be questioned again as inquiries continue. Specially trained officers are supporting Singh's family, and police are asking anyone with information or CCTV footage to come forward.
Detectives are still trying to determine exactly what happened and are reviewing evidence and speaking to witnesses.
The incident comes amid growing debate in parts of the UK over immigration and public safety. Earlier this week, large anti-immigration protests took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, after a Sudanese man was charged with attempted murder in a separate knife attack that seriously injured another man.
The Belfast protests turned violent, with cars and buildings set on fire and several homes belonging to ethnic minority families being targeted. Officials strongly condemned the violence, with Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn calling it "racist thuggery."
