Afghanistan embassy in Delhi permanently shut due to ongoing challenges from India
New Delhi, November 24: The Afghanistan embassy in New Delhi has permanently closed its doors due to what it cites as "persistent challenges from the Indian government." This closure, effective from November 23, marks a decision made in response to ongoing issues faced by the diplomatic mission.
The embassy's statement highlighted its prior cessation of operations on September 30, undertaken in the hopes of a favorable change in the Indian government's stance that would allow the mission to resume its regular functioning. However, faced with continuous challenges, the embassy made the difficult decision to shut down permanently.
Addressing potential interpretations, the embassy acknowledged the possibility of this move being misconstrued as an internal conflict involving diplomats who purportedly shifted allegiance to the Taliban. Yet, it emphasized that the decision stemmed from broader shifts in policy and interests rather than internal disputes.
Expressing gratitude to Afghan citizens in India for their understanding and support during the embassy's tenure, the statement highlighted the embassy's efforts in striving for the welfare of Afghan citizens despite constraints in resources and authority. Additionally, it acknowledged the absence of a legitimate government in Kabul, indicating the challenges faced in the absence of proper governance.
