'Modi's war': Trump advisor's bizarre claim over Ukraine conflict

PTC News Desk: Hours after Trump's punitive 50 % tariffs on India came into effect, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro labelled the Russia-Ukraine conflict "Modi's war," claiming it was New Delhi's continued purchase of Russian energy that was fuelling Moscow's military aggression.

In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Navarro referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, "I mean Modi's war because the road to peace runs, in part, through New Delhi."

The comments followed the implementation of Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods earlier on Wednesday, a move the US President tied to India’s ongoing imports of Russian oil. This new tariff doubles the 25% duty introduced earlier this month.

Navarro alleged that Moscow utilized the revenue from India’s purchase of discounted crude to “finance its war machine,” which, in his view, has put pressure on US resources through increased demands from Kyiv for weapons and financial support.

"Everybody in America loses because of what India is doing. The consumers and businesses and everything lose, and workers lose because India's high tariffs cost us jobs, and factories, and income and higher wages. And then the taxpayers lose because we got to fund Modi's war," Navarro said.

"India can get 25 per cent off tomorrow if it stops buying Russian oil and helped to feed the war machine," he further added.
