Tehran has right to defend: Pakistan condemns US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites

PTC News Desk: A day after nominating US President Donald Trump for Nobel Prize for his 'decisive diplomatic intervention' amid India-Pakistan conflict, Pakistan has deplored its precision strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities.

The United States launched strikes on three key Iranian sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan — early on Sunday, targeting facilities linked to Tehran's nuclear program in a bid to cripple its capabilities.

In a post on its official X account, Pakistan's foreign affairs ministry said that the US strikes "violate all norms of international law," adding that Iran has every right to defend itself under the United Nations Charter.

"We are gravely concerned at the possible further escalation of tensions in the region. The unprecedented escalation of tension and violence, owing to ongoing aggression against Iran, is deeply disturbing. Any further escalation of tensions will have severely damaging implications for the region and beyond," the post read.

"We reiterate that these attacks violate all norms of international law and that Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself under the UN Charter," it added.

Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan government announced that it has decided to formally nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Prize next year. The statement came days after Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir was invited to the White House for lunch with Donald Trump.

"The Government of Pakistan has decided to formally recommend President Donald J Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis," it had said.
