Turkey-Syria earthquake: Death toll crossed 41,000, anger mounts over slow aid

PTC News desk, February 15: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday said, more than 35,000 people have been killed in the country. This is one of the deadliest natural disaster since the country’s founding 100 years ago. UN has confirmed that more than 5,800 people dead in Syria.

The country is in urgent need of aid, but it has come to notice that the aid has begun truckling in the northwestern Syria. Just nine days after the earthquake with a UN convoy carrying humanitarian assistance passing through the Bab al-Salam crossing from Turkey.

The UN also appealed for $397m in aid to help five million Syrian survivors with shelter, healthcare and food. WHO also described the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria is the worst and horrifying natural disaster in a century. 

Turkish president, said more than 13,000 people were still being treated in hospital as relief operation is on. The weather condition in the region is making slow the rescue operation. 

While the evacuation was going on and the rescue operators are looking if there are still survivors, miraculously a 42-year-old woman has been rescued from the rubble of a building in the southern Turkish, where she was trapped for almost 222 hours.  She was immediately hospitalied looking at the critical condition.
