US Mass Shooting: In yet another distressing, tragic and unsettling incident from United States, at least 22 killed, 50-60 wounded in a multiple shooting incident at Lewiston, Maine in the United States

According to media reports, the shootings happened at a restaurant and bowling alley in Lewiston on Wednesday night (local time).

Maine state police also urged residents to take shelter and stay indoors as the ongoing situation in Maine is worse.

State police also took to their social media handle and read, “There is an active shooter in Lewiston. We ask people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked. Law enforcement is currently investigating at multiple locations.”

Taking swift action in the matter, the local police of Maine also posted a photo of the shooter on Facebook with the description that he is man with beard wearing a brown top, blue pants and brown shoes, and police asked for anyone with information on his identity to contact them immediately.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden was briefed on what's known so far about the mass shooting in Lewiston. The White House said President Biden spoke by phone individually to Maine Governor Janet Mills, Senators Angus King and Susan Collins, and Congressman Jared Golden about the shooting in Lewiston, Maine and offered full federal support in the wake of this horrific attack.

It is to be noted that there has been uptick in incidents of mass shooting in United States. An uptick in such cases is a serious issue for society and is also raising questions on the law-and-order situation in the country.

Gun violence is all too common in the United States, a country with more firearms than people and where attempts to limit their availability are always met with vehement opposition.

According to the reports and data, United States reported over 500 mass shootings this year
