After black fungus, cases of 'white fungus' reported in Bihar amid COVID-19

While the nation is dealing with the second wave of coronavirus and the black fungus infection, also known as Mucormycosis, four cases of ‘white fungus’ or ‘candidiasis’ have been reported at the government-run Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Bihar, the health officials said. White fungus or candidiasis is said to be more dangerous than black fungus infection or mucormycosis. Bihar is already dealing with the second wave of coronavirus and subsequently, black fungus. According to health experts, white fungus affects the lungs as well as other parts of the body including the nails, skin, stomach, kidney, brain, private parts, and mouth. The white fungus can also cause an infection similar to COVID-19 in the lungs, they observed. It was detected when high-resolution computed tomography was performed on the infected patient. Four patients with white fungus displayed COVID-like symptoms, however, they were not found to positive after being tested. Amid coronavirus and black fungus infection (Mucormycosis), four cases of ‘white fungus’ or ‘candidiasis’ have been reported. Soon after the detection of white fungus, the patients were treated with antifungal medicines and have shown improvement in their condition. Meanwhile, another PMCH doctor said that the oxygen saturation level of one of the four patients dropped from the normal level, however, the oxygen level reached 95 after being treated.
