Army Day: World's largest Khadi national flag displayed in Jaisalmer

The world's largest national flag made of Khadi, the 'Monumental National Flag,' was exhibited along the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan's Longewala on Saturday as part of the 74th Army Day celebrations. Longewala was the centre of the India-Pakistan 1971 war. At Jaisalmer Military Station, the Southern Command presented a 225-feet-by-150-feet flag. It was made from 4500 metres of hand-spun and hand-woven Khadi cotton bunting, covering a total surface of 33,750 square feet. The Ashok Chakra in the flag is 30 feet in diameter. It is about 1,400 kg in weight. The hoisting of the flag also marks India's 75th anniversary of independence, which is being celebrated as 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.' The national flag was unveiled by GOC 12 RAPID in presence of a selected group of dignitaries. The 'Monumental National Flag' has been prominently displayed and can be seen from several kilometres away. According to the Army, this massive flag represents the "pride and aspiration of our country's people, with the aim of uniting all citizens in support of the glory and spirit of nationalism." The Army's initiative to instil patriotic zeal among locals in the border region has been greatly praised. According to the Ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises, this is the fifth public display of the national flag since its unveiling on October 2, 2021, in Leh. It was then displayed at Hindon Airbase on October 8, 2021, for Air Force Day, and in the Red Fort on October 21, 2021, to commemorate India's completion of 100 crore COVID-19 vaccinations. The national flag was hoisted over the Naval Dockyard at the Gateway of India in Mumbai on December 4, 2021, to commemorate Navy Day.
