Bihar woman gives birth in train toilet, both healthy

A woman from Bihar gave birth to a baby boy inside a toilet on the Shramjeevi Express on Thursday. She was travelling with her husband.

The woman, identified as Simpi belongs to Bhagalpur in Bihar. She was eight-months pregnant and faced premature labour.

Her husband, identified as Sooraj, raised the alarm, following which other female passengers helped in her delivery. Some CRPF personnel, who were also travelling via the Shramjeevi Express, provided financial help to the couple.

When the train halted at the Moradabad station in UP, members of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) shifted the woman to the district hospital.

Woman gives birth in train toiletThe woman's husband, who works at a private firm in Delhi, said: "My wife went to train toilet, where she faced premature labour. She gave birth to a baby boy. Other female passengers helped her in delivery. Our doctor had told told us that she would give birth sometime next month. So, we decided to go to our hometown during Chhath Puja. I am very thankful to both CRPF and RPF personnel and fellow passengers for their assistance."

The baby and mother were healthy, he added.
