In view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the government of India on Thursday extended the validity of motor vehicle documents that include driving licence (DL), registration certificate (RC) and permits till September 30, 2021. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has advised the enforcement authorities that the validity of fitness, permit (all types), driving licence, registration certificate (RC) or any other concerned document(s) would be treated to be valid till September 30, 2021. It said that the development would cover all documents whose validity has expired since February 1, 2020, or would expire by September 30, 2021. The move is aimed to help citizens in availing transport-related services while maintaining social distancing. The advisory further said that all the States/UTs are requested to implement this advisory so that citizens, transporters, and various other organisations, may not get harassed and face difficulties. Amid coronavirus pandemic, the government extended validity of motor vehicle documents like driving licence, registration certificate (RC). Earlier, the Ministry had issued advisories dated March 30, 2020, June 9, 2020, August 24, 2020, December 27, 2020, and March 26, 2021. All of these advisories were in connection with the extension of validity of documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
