Chandigarh may go the Punjab way with strict lockdown on weekends
While coronavirus cases are rising in the city, Chandigarh may also opt the Punjab way in imposing lockdown on weekends and public holidays.
During the daily war room meeting presided over by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore on Wednesday, it was discussed that if there is a drastic rise in a number of cases or if the residents continue to violate social distancing norms, Chandigarh could opt for weekend closure of markets or curfew on weekends, as has been done in Punjab and other states.
The Director-General of Police has been asked to ensure that vehicles carrying registration numbers from outstation and bringing visitors from outside are checked at the borders and their details obtained for subsequent monitoring. They should not be allowed to violate the quarantine stipulations.
Similarly, all the officials have been directed to intensify vigil through special drive conducted by the dedicated teams in different parts of the city and penalise those violating the guidelines and other hygienic instructions.

According to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), out of 445 samples received on Tuesday, only 13 cases were found positive, and in GMCH out of 92 samples received only 02 were found positive. All expectant women admitted in the hospitals must be tested for COVID.
