Delhi reduces VAT on petrol to 19.40 percent
Petrol price in Delhi: Giving relief to the common man, the Delhi Government on Wednesday announced a reduction of VAT on petrol to 19.40 percent from 30 percent. With the reduction in VAT, the petrol price in Delhi would be reduced by Rs 8 per litre. The new rates are to come into effect from midnight Wednesday. The cost of petrol in Delhi was Rs 103.97. It may be recalled that on the eve of Diwali last month, the Central government had cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and Rs 10 per litre on diesel to bring down the prices of petrol and diesel across the country. Ever since the Centre had announced the reduction in excise duty, the opposition parties in Delhi were urging the state government to cut VAT on petrol at their end as well. BJP leaders in Delhi were demanding that the VAT be cut by Rs 10 per litre of petrol.
