Delhi reduces VAT on petrol to 19.40 percent

Petrol price in Delhi: Giving relief to the common man, the Delhi Government on Wednesday announced a reduction of VAT on petrol to 19.40 percent from 30 percent. With the reduction in VAT, the petrol price in Delhi would be reduced by Rs 8 per litre. The new rates are to come into effect from midnight Wednesday. The cost of petrol in Delhi was Rs 103.97. BJP leaders in Delhi were demanding that the VAT be cut by Rs 10 per litre of petrol.

In India, the prices of petrol and diesel differ from state to state on the basis of local taxes (VAT) and freight charges. Apart from this, the Centre charges an excise duty on auto fuels.
