From Alia Bhatt to Katrina Kaif: Bollywood stars ineligible to vote in 2024 Lok Sabha elections

PTC News Desk: During phase 5 of the Lok Sabha Polls, a number of Bollywood actors and directors, including Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Hema Malini, Esha Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Ranveer Singh, cast their ballots.

For those who may not be aware, Akshay Kumar became an official citizen of India in August 2023, and this was his first Lok Sabha election. While many in the business have been asking people to cast their ballots, you might be surprised to learn that some Bollywood artists are not able to do so in the current Lok Sabha Polls. Alia Bhatt

Without a question, one of the most prominent people in Bollywood is Alia Bhatt. She is a British citizen and does not possess Indian citizenship, despite her Indian origin. Birmingham is the birthplace of both her and her mother, Soni Razdan. Consequently, she is not allowed to vote in elections under Indian law.

Katrina Kaif

In addition, Katrina Kaif is not Indian by nationality; she is British. Her mother, Susanna, is an English lawyer and volunteer, and her father, Mohammed Kaif, is a British businessman of Kashmiri origin. She was born in British Hong Kong. She is therefore ineligible to vote in Indian elections, despite having a prosperous career in Hindi cinema.

Nora Fatehi

Despite having Moroccan ancestry due to her Moroccan parents, Nora Fatehi rose to success in Indian film. She is not, however, able to vote in India because she is a citizen of Canada.

Imran Khan

Imran Khan is an American citizen by birth since he was born in Madison, Wisconsin. His mother is a psychotherapist, and his father works as a software engineer. However, following his parents' divorce, Imran relocated to India.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Another well-known person who is ineligible to vote in India is Jacqueline Fernandez. The actress's mother is Malaysian, and her father is Sri Lankan; they were married in Bahrain. Since she is a citizen of Sri Lanka, she is not allowed to vote in India.
